Qualifications and Time Commitment

ACHS aims to diversify its representation, seeking individuals from various geographical areas and backgrounds to broaden perspectives. Nominees should demonstrate commitment to ACHS's mission and contribute to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community.

Candidates are expected to attend monthly meetings, serve on working committees, and perform additional tasks as needed. Serving on the Executive Committee requires time, creative energy, and the ability to participate in online meetings.

*To accommodate different time zones - meetings include 2 different meeting times in one day.

 

 Nominations are now being accepted for
positions on the ACHS EC

  • Every other year, the Executive Committee (EC) posts a Call for Nominations for EC positions to be filled. The slate shall include as many nominees as there are vacancies.

  • The Executive Committee provides guidance for calling for nominations based on the Committee's analysis of current projects, including ongoing EC positions and mission-related initiatives.

  • The EC receives and reviews all qualified nominations, thoroughly assesses the expertise required for each position, and lists nominees eligible for the election.

  • The nominees’ statements, collected with the form below, will be published on the ACHS website and sent to members in preparation for the election.

  • Final selections among the candidates will be determined by a vote of the members of the ACHS in the week preceding the General Meeting of Members this year.

  • The election will proceed by a paper ballot, and a Notice of Election will be sent to all members.

  • Only Full International members who have paid their dues may be nominated, and following the ACHS Bylaws, need to keep their membership in good standing during their term.

  • ACHS does not compensate EC members or reimburse expenses for service.

  • New EC officers take office after the General Meeting of Members on June 6, 2024.

We recommend that before submitting any nomination, you review the ACHS Mission and history and the responsibilities of officers stated in the ACHS Bylaws and consult the key interests and capabilities listed on this page. 

Key interests and capabilities to be elected on the ACHS EC in 2024

The newly elected officers will pursue the development of the Association by implementing strategic steps to expand its reach to regions of the world where it might be less present, to better serve its members, and to contribute to society and knowledge of heritage in a critical perspective.

Nominees who have professional connections with university programs and organizations that study or manage heritage or can otherwise contribute to heritage studies, policies, and practices from a critical perspective are encouraged to apply. They should be enthusiastic about working with an international team across borders and show an ability to use computer-based tools and platforms.

The newly elected officers will join one of the four Executive Committee subcommittees. In so doing, they are expected to bring specific experience in the topics and tasks addressed by the subcommittee of their choice, for example, in planning, writing or publishing newsletters, managing social media platforms, media, and public relations, communications strategies; assisting members with diverse digital platforms; etc.

The Executive Committee particularly seeks nominees who hold experience with:

  • Social Media engagements and outreach

  • Website management.

  • Fundraising

  • Any or many of the following platforms and their integration: Stripe, Membershipworks, Mailchimp, GSuite, SurveyMonkey, Wufoo

In addition, the Executive Committee will welcome nominees who hold experience or have an interest in:

  • Engaging with International Chapters and Members

  • Digital publishing

  • Database management

  • Event planning

Candidates submit their nominations using the form below.

All nominations must be supported by two ACHS Full international members.

Candidates must state 1) how they possess the capabilities and experience required, 2) how they relate to critical heritage studies, and 3) how they envision their contribution to the ACHS through their role as officers in the years to come.
